The ECU provides energy and water management services for the Council's non-housing properties, unless stated otherwise. These include the contribution of technical expertise in respect of monitoring energy and water usage; purchasing energy and water supplies and validating on-going invoiciMonday, April 16, 2007ter usage and advising on necessary remedial actions, training of the Council's managerial staff.
In addition the ECU carries out energy audits of Council's domestic dwelling to SAP Level 65 using the Auto evaluator methods of assessments.
Domestic
Buildings
The
ECU prepares and estimates
the energy ratings
of homes in the borough
and reports to the
Government on the
progress made in reducing
domestic energy use.
The
unit also advises
the Housing Department
on improvement works
to heating and insulation
in council housing
in order to reduce
CO2 emissions.
The
unit's services are
available to Housing
Associations and Housing
Trusts in the Newham
area.
Purchasing

Conservation
Unit purchases
energy supplies
on behalf of
Newham's buildings
as well as the
Theatre Royal,
Stratford Circus,
The Academy
of Music and
the Sixth-Form
Colleges, in
line with Best
Value. Green
Electricity
is always considered
when purchasing
fuel.
Monitoring

minimise usage.

Efficiency Surveys

carried out
and advice given
on implementing
the energy saving

Change Levy
- We are responsible
for the installation
of energy improvement
measures in
25 public buildings
in the last
12 months, to
meet Newham's

objectives in

Central Government

Renewables
- We have applied
for grant funding
to install a
large-scale
solar voltaic
project in the
Woodgrange Rgeneration
Area. All major
electricity
users in the
borough are
currently using
green electricity
form a renewable
source.
