Newham's new Leisure Centre in East Ham town centre was opened in September 2001 by Richard Caborn, Minister for Sport. The muti-million pound project, which attracted a major Sports Lottery award, was designed and supervised by a team comprising in-house professionals and specialist consultants, led by Property & Design Consultancy's Architect Ron Shaul.

The scheme provides 'state of the art' facilities including sports hall, swimming pools, fitness suite, climbing wall, dance studio and sauna/solarium, plus cafeteria and creche. All these facilities are provided in a modern steel and glass structure, incorporating parts of the original buildings, which have been preserved, in agreement with English Heritage, to retain the visual and historical link with the Town Hall and other 'Grade II' listed civic buildings at this important town centre location.
